Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional for extra fudginess)

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (or your favorite mix-ins like nuts or dried fruit)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Prepare the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Whisk until well-blended.

        - Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until smooth and creamy.

          - In another bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.

            - Stir in the chocolate chips, if desired. Pour this brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.

              Prepare the Cookie Layer:

                - In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

                  - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

                    - In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips or any other add-ins you like.

Layer Together: Using a spoon or spatula, dollop spoonfuls of the cookie dough evenly over the brownie layer. No need to spread it out completely; an uneven pattern adds to the texture.

                        Bake:

                          - Place the pan in the preheated oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are set, and a toothpick inserted into the center (which may have moist crumbs) comes out clean.

                            - Be careful not to overbake, as this could lead to a cakey texture instead of the desired fudginess.

                              Cool and Serve:

                                - Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 15-20 minutes. If you can, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

                                  - Cut into squares or rectangles when ready to serve.

                                    Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 12-16
