Ingredients

1 lb beef flank steak, sliced thinly against the grain

2 cups broccoli florets

1 red bell pepper, sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece of ginger, grated

1/4 cup soy sauce

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons rice wine or sherry

1 tablespoon sugar

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 teaspoon sesame oil

Cooked jasmine rice for serving

Instructions

Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, rice wine, and sugar. Mix well to coat the beef and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.

Blanch Broccoli: Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and cook for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and plunge into ice water to stop the cooking process. This helps retain the vibrant color and crunch.

Stir-Fry the Beef: In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear for about 2-3 minutes until browned, flipping halfway through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

Vegetable Stir-Fry: In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed, then add the minced garlic and grated ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the sliced red bell pepper and cooked broccoli. Stir-fry for an additional 2 minutes to warm through and combine the flavors.

Combine and Finish: Return the beef to the skillet. Drizzle with sesame oil and stir everything together well, cooking for another minute. Ensure everything is heated through and the beef is fully cooked.

Serve: Remove from heat and serve the beef and broccoli hot over a bed of fluffy jasmine rice. Enjoy your delicious homemade Chinese beef and broccoli!
