Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ tsp sea salt

1 tsp sugar

2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)

2 tbsp olive oil (plus extra for greasing)

Cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and sea salt.

Combine Ingredients: Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

Form Dough: Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix until a rough dough forms.

Knead Dough: On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Lightly oil a clean bowl, place the dough in it, and cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm spot for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Shape Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into 2 equal parts for larger pizzas or 4 for smaller ones. Shape into balls.

Second Rise: Place the shaped dough balls on a floured surface, cover with a cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: While dough is rising, preheat your oven to its highest setting (usually around 475°F / 245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat up.

Shape and Bake: Roll out each dough ball on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer to a pizza peel dusted with cornmeal. Add toppings and slide onto the hot pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven, slice, and enjoy your artisanal pizza!
